The United States likes to pretend it's progressive when it comes to feminism, but only if women play within the rules set down by the men who are still in charge. You need to look for code words when pundits talk about Hillary or Michelle: "bitter," "shrill," "angry." They're codes for "ball-busting dyke who is smarter than you and will steal your soul."

You can be a powerful woman, but only if your publicly stated hobbies include baking cupcakes and watching romantic comedies... you know, just like regular women. If you show that you won't be pushed around and have thoughts of your own, you're a bitch, a lesbian, a ball buster, and hey, why don't you show me that pretty smile of yours?

Being a woman in the US is difficult because the sexism tends to be far more subtle and nuanced than in other countries. Just look at how much column space newspapers like the New York friggin' Times give to what female politicians are wearing and what the clothes "say." Do you remember the media-fueled controversy over Hillary's cleavage? I mean, my God.

I'm curious how much better female politicians and power players fare in Brazil.

Jesus Jen, you said everything! No need for further comments. hahahahha. Although everybody seems to think women in the first world (especially in Sweeden) are modern and have thoughts of their own, it seems to be the opposite. Women are going to be women in Namibia, Sweeden, Brazil or Panama. We are simple not the same as men. Maybe, all this polemic issue was created by men, wanting to reinforce the power they THINK they have on us. It's all a big game. You think you tell me what to do and how to do it, I fake I do it. Don't you guys think? Michelle may be an oppinionated woman, saying things like Barack has bad breath, leaves clothes all over the house, is messy. She may be the queen of the house and Barak may be the king of the White house, but Michelle will still be the one who tell the man what to do.
